Steppin’ Out Academy of Performing Arts

GAIL OLDFIELD, Director
A seasoned pro, is well known throughout the east coast teaching master classes in the art of tap and jazz dance for over three decades. She is a former Radio City Music Hall Rockette, NYC, an active member of the Rockette Allumni, and currently tours nationally with Bob Goss Productions of the Silver Sizzles Follies. Students travel for miles to take her classes and to see her perform. Gail and her daughter, Jennifer, choreographed & directed the production of “Fantapulous”, for 9 years which is performed live during WPVI 6 ABC Boscov’s Thanksgiving Day parade in Philadelphia. She has performed with such celebrities as Liza Minnelli, Bob Hope, Jack Lemon, Natalie Wood, and Carey Grant. For ten years Gail held the position of Director of the Dance Department at Cabrini College. A native of New York City, she started her training at the age of three under such legends as Francis Cole, Paul Draper, Bob Audey, Charles “Honey” Coles, and Phil Black. Gail’s choreography has won nationally acclaimed status and some of the highest honors awarded. She has choreographed every known musical to date for every area High School, Community Theater, and Summer Stock. It is quite an honor to have “Miss Gail” as a leader with Steppin’ Out Academy. She is a hero in our community; everyone knows of her or has performed in one of her musicals!!

MAKENZIE CRANE, Jazz, Hip Hop, Jumps & Turns
A third generation dancer, Makenzie is proud to keep the tradition of a family of dancers alive into the 21st century. Makenzie trained at her mother's dance studio as well as North Carolina School of the Arts, Interlochen Arts Center in Michigan , Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts, River North Dance Chicago and Broadway Dance Center in New York City . Makenzie has danced for Tap Team II, By Storm Hip Hop Company, ASH Contemporary, as well as being an original Jammin' Gold Dancer. She has also performed in several corporate events throughout the Philadelphia area. Performance credits include DRA's "Remember Project", Broadway Dance Center 's Performance Outlets, The Best Of..., as well as the First Annual International Dance Festival. Makenzie also serves as a sound technician and lighting designer for numerous performances in NYC. Currently, Makenzie is teaching around the tri-state area including the Broadway Dance Center 's Children's Program as well as judging for various competitions throughout the United States . We are very honored to have Makenzie on our staff at Steppin’ Out, the kids just love her!!

JENNIFER OLDFIELD, Director
Director Jennifer is a 3rd generation dancer trained by her mother Gail Oldfield and then in New York City. Jennifer's choreographic credits include the WPVI 6 ABC Boscov's Thanksgiving and Sunoco Welcome America 4th of July parades in Philadelphia, Sunoco Welcome America 2 Cities 2 States Concert, Millennium Philadelphia, Painted Bride Theater for Philly Tap, JCC Maccabi Games 2001 opening ceremonies, 4th Annual World International Dragon Boat Races opening ceremonies, Republican National Convention 2000, Governor Rendell's Inauguration parade, National Independence Day Parade, Washington D.C. 2003 & 2004, and Hershey Park Centennial Celebration 2003. However, her most cherished memory was working with Gregory Peck when he was awarded the Marian Anderson Award in 2000, one of her role models. Jennifer has taught extensively throughout the area and judged dance competitions throughout the country every weekend for several years prior to opening Steppin’ Out. Along with her mother Gail, they have choreographed the annual production of ''Fantapulous" for the WPVI 6 ABC Boscov's Thanksgiving Parade for 9 years. She has choreographed for local high school musicals, Community Theater, and for the Mummers Day Parade in Philadelphia. Her students have won numerous awards both nationally and regionally and are recipients of the Pennsylvania Governor School of the Arts Scholarships. Jennifer has her degree in Accounting/Finance, and Paralegal Certification in the state of Pennsylvania. Most recently, Jennifer choreographed the Pre-game and Half-time shows for the Mazda Tangerine Bowl in Orlando 2003. Jennifer has also been a String Band Judge for the Mummers Day Parade for six years.

TIM EARLY, Ballet, Jazz
Tim is well known throughout the area for his different styles of jazz and modern. As a ballet instructor he is a true master having an extensive technical background with the Vagonova Syllabus. He is currently co-director of OPUS 1 Contemporary, a member of the Brandywine Ballet Theatre, as well a faculty member for the dance department of Temple University. He is a master instructor at Bryn Mawr College, Dance Masters of America, and Dance Educators of America in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Tim’s choreography has been acclaimed both nationally and internationally. In addition to his teaching abilities, his professional repertoire includes such roles with the Brandywine Ballet as Dracula, Cavalier, Snow, Spanish, Arabian in the Nutcracker, Cinderella, Coppelia, and Sleeping Beauty. We are honored to have Tim on our faculty he brings something new every week – a true artist!!!!

BECKY NASH, Ballet Mistress
Becky Nash is one of the most versed ballet instructors in the area in the Vaganova Syllabus. She started dancing at the age of three and began performing professionally at the age of fourteen for stage and television. Becky is accredited by the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet Society to teach the Vagonova Syllabus instituted in the Leningrad Choreographic Institute. She holds a BFA in Dance Education with a Ballet major. Becky has been on the staff of the Dance Faculty of West Chester University for twelve years. Additionally, she is on the faculty of the Dance Center for the Brandywine Ballet in West Chester, choreographs for professional theater, Community Theater, and local area High Schools. We are lucky to have Miss Becky with us!!

AMY E. PESTRITTO, Modern
Amy has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Education & History from University of Delaware. She has been an experienced dancer for many years and always stays up to date with latest styles of dance. Amy is competent to teach Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Hip Hop, and Tap. We are pleased to welcome her to our staff at Steppin’ Out.

DANIELLE VORDAKAS-DUCO, Jazz
A graduate of the Taylor School of Art with a BFA from Temple University MAGNA CUM LAUD a minor in dance, Danielle had a ryt in yoga and has performed and danced all throughout Australia, the West Coast, and the East Coast. She is trained in all disciplines in the art of dance. We are happy to announce Danielle as a new member to our Staff at Steppin’ Out!

SHANNON WILLIAMS, Hip-Hop
Shannon started dancing at the age of 2 and then her mother enrolled her in the Philadelphia School of Dance Arts (PHILADANCO). Over the years she branched out into a number of different styles of dance that include ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and modern. At the age of 9, she had the opportunity to perform with the world famous “Queen of Sole”, Mrs. Aretha Franklin! She was also involved with the production of the “Harlem Nutcracker” tapped with “FANTAPULOUS” in Philadelphia’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and is a former member of the HIP-HOP Company named “VERSITILE”. Shannon’s unique style of hip-hop is what keeps her kids coming back. Everyone loves Shannon and her class, even the adults!!! Taken on another year welcome back!!!

CATI WADE, Ballet-Jazz, Pre-K, Ballet-Tap Hip Hop, Beg Jazz Cati started dancing at the age of 4 in jazz, tap, ballet, modern, hip hop, and lyrical. As an all around dancer as all our teachers are, Cati caught to competition edge as most young dancers do. She was able to tour throughout the country gaining the extra edge most dancers don’t have called confidence. Cati also was on a cheer squad called Cheer Dynamics ALL-STAR as flyer or top girl. She developed great tumbling and stunt technique from that experience. She loves teaching kids and watch them devlop through what she can teach them. Welcome back sparkling Cati!!!

MEGAN ORT
Megan has taken dance technique and performance classes for a total of twelve years, mainly focusing in the styles of ballet, jazz, and modern. She has danced with the Conservatory of Music and Dance on Dance Teams and the Modern Company, the Pennsylvania Performing Arts Academy, and Steppin' Out Dance Academy. Her involvement in musical theater and straight drama both in and out of school is extensive, having performed with Pennsylvania Performing Arts Academy, Methacton High School Theatre Company, Methacton Women's Performance Group, Montgomery County Cultural Center , Cappies International Theatre, and Methacton Community Theatre. Roles include Marian Paroo in The Music Man, Anita in West Side Story, Erma in Anything Goes, Sandy in Grease, Ariel in The Tempest, and Cassandra in The Trojan Women. Megan won the 2007 Best Actress in a Play Cappie Award for her performance as Lady MacBeth in MacBeth and was given the opportunity to attend the Cappies International Theatre in Washington DC in the summer of 2007 where she performed at the Kennedy Center . She is currently Student Director, Choreographer, and President for the Methacton Theatre Company and the Women's Performance Group, for which she often runs rehearsals and teaches dance and acting technique. Megan is also a member and Historian of Methacton's Concert Choir, Chorale, Jazz Choir, and Barbershop Quartet Stay Tuned. Megan studies classical voice with Elizabeth Francisco and attended the Pennsylvania Governor School for the Arts in the summer of 2008 as a Vocal Major. We are so proud of Megan and very lucky to have her on our staff again this year!

JILLIAN LAFORE, Pre-school, Combination
Jillian has been dancing since age two. As a well rounded dancer her studies include ballet (Vaganova Syllabus), Pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, musical theater and, hip hop. She has been involved in many events such as JCC Maccabi Games, Thanksgiving Day Parades for WPVI -ABC, 4th of July Parade for WPVI-ABC, Cherry Blossom Parade, Mazda Tangerine Bowl Pre-Game & Half-Time, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell Inauguration Parade, Hershey Centennial Celebration Opening & Closing Productions, Movie Premiere of Havana Nights, Movie Premiere of Shark Tales, Magic Music Days, Break the Floor, Shake the Floor, Dogwood Parades, Rittenhouse Row Festival of the Arts. In her school musicals she has been a featured dancer. Jillian has competed and won many awards and special awards for her dancing with her dance team at Steppin’ Out. She attends at least two dance conventions a year to further her education with different instructors throughout the country. Since the age of nine Jillian has been performing in the Nutcracker and has danced the lead roles of Candy Cane, Dancing Doll, and Spanish. Last year she made it as a semi-finalist to The Pennsylvania Governor School for the Arts, a very prestigious honor. We are very excited to have Jillian joining our staff at Steppin’ Out this year!!

JORDAN COMINSKY, Pre-k, Beginner ballet 1
Jordan has been dancing since the age of four and as a student with Steppin’ Out since its inception in 1997. Currently taught by both directors: Gail and Jennifer Oldfield, our ballet mistress: Becky Nash, and in addition by most of the other brilliant instructors that have taught at Steppin’ Out over the years. Jordan has seriously trained in tap/rhythm tap, jazz, ballet (Vaganova Syllabus), Pointe, modern, and lyrical. She has also been trained in hip-hop and musical theater. Since the age of seven, Jordan has taken part in many of the events that Steppin’ Out has participated in such as: WPVI -ABC’S Boscov’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, WPVI -ABC’s 4th of July Parade, The annual Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington D.C., Magic Music Days and Mazda Tangerine Bowl Pre-Game and Half-Time Show in Orlando, Florida, Governor Ed Rendell Inauguration Parade in Pennsylvania, Gil Stroming’s Break the Floor Convention and Show in New York City, The opening and closing performances in Hershey’s Centennial Celebration, Rittenhouse Row Festival of the Arts, Dogwood Parades, the movie premieres of Havana Nights and Happy Feet at Regal Cinema in Oaks, and she was a competitor/performer on Steppin’ Out’s Award Winning Dance-Tech team. Jordan has also performed in our annual production of “The Nutcracker” and has danced the leads of Clara, Ginger Sweet, Tea, Candy Cane, Spanish, and Dew Drop. Jordan was a featured dancer in Spring-Ford Senior High’s production of “ 42nd Street ”. Last year, Jordan was a substitute teacher for many of the full-time staff on an on call basis. Trained by Gail and Jennifer Oldfield for a teaching position we are very happy to announce Jordan to our Steppin’ Out Staff this year and as a role model to our up and coming dancers.
