MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE INTENSIVE WEEK

High School Students Only – 14yrs and Up
Classes will begin with a general warm-up session for everyone. This will be followed by two sessions of Broadway Style Dancing. Original or modified choreography for specific musicals will be taught and there will be two groups based upon ability levels. All are welcome to attend no matter what your dance level! Join us for a week of fun dancing!
The week format will be as
follows:
Monday – Choreography from a Classical Musical (e.g. Oklahoma / Gus and Dolls)
Tuesday – Choreography from a Tap Musical (e.g. Singing in the Rain / 42nd Street)
Wednesday – Choreography from a Contemporary Musical (e.g. Wicked / Hairspray)
Thursday – Fosse Choreography (e.g. Steam Heat / Chicago)
GAIL OLDFIELD
Gail Oldfield is well known throughout the East coast, teaching master classes in the art of tap and jazz dance for over three decades. She is a former Radio city Music Hall Rockette, NYC, an active member of the Rockette Alumni, and currently tours and performs nationally with the Silver Sizzles Follies. As a dancer she has performed with such celebrities as Lisa Minnelli, Bob Hope, Jack Lemon, Natalie Wood, and Carey Grant. As a choreographer her choreographic works have won nationally acclaimed status. Gail’s musical theatre experience is extensive and she has choreographed almost every well known musical to date for area high schools, community theatres, and summer stock. She is presently the co- director of Steppin out Academy of Performing Arts.
BARBARA LAPPANO
Barbara is recently retired as the dance coordinator for West Chester University’s dance minor program, where she taught courses in jazz, tap, ballet, musical theatre choreography, and dance history. Beyond teaching and choreographing, she was also the founder of Dance Production Workshop, a renowned performing company on campus. Her musical theatre background has been extensive and she is presently the musical theatre choreographer for Downingtown East High School, Downingtown Middle School, and the Montgomery School. She also previously served as the musical theater choreographer for the university theatre as well as the Savoy Company of Philadelphia. In her retirement, Barbara has established her own privet consulting, teaching and choreographic business called Dance by Design.
KENNETH FISHER
Kenneth is happy to mark his 25th year as a choreographer. He received his initial training in ballet, tap, and jazz in his hometown of Reading, Pa. He attended West Chester University majoring in Elementary Education with minors in both music and dance – studying with Barbara Lappano. Kenneth has choreographed over thirty musicals for both schools and community theatre. In addition to his choreographic work, he has appeared as a classical soloist and onstage in many area theatres, most recently as Linus in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown for Narberth Community Theatre. Later this summer he will travel to the UK appearing in Iolanthe at the Buxton International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival.
